Kingsholm Activity Day, Saturday 5th August

The Friends are really pleased to be involved with the Kingsholm Activity Day project with Voices Gloucester on Saturday 5th August.  Martha has made some wonderful animated illustrations which we hope everyone will enjoy looking at as they walk around the Gardens and see the monuments.

Lord Lieutenant plants silver birch

As part of events to mark the late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee earlier this year Gloucestershire’s Lord Lieutenant, Edward Gillespie, has planted a tree in Gloucester’s Hillfield Gardens. 1000 crocuses planted for Purple4Polio

This week the Friends of Hillfield Gardens planted 1000 purple crocus bulbs, kindly donated by Rotary@Kingsholm as part of the Purple4Polio campaign to raise awareness and eradicate polio across the world. Can’t wait to see them in the spring!

Hillfield Gardens honoured with ‘Tree of Trees’

Three Gloucestershire organisations have been honoured with trees from the ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture which formed the glorious green centrepiece to the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Buckingham Palace in June. Cedar tree felled

Unfortunately, the council had to fell the majestic blue cedar last month. It had been examined by the tree officer last autumn, and disease was found in the cleft between the two main branches when it had been felled. The rings show the tree was at least 170 years old. It will be missed!
